There are three Prague opera houses: the Prague State Opera, the Estates Theatre and the National Theatre. Each Prague opera house has a unique architectural and cultural appeal and presents a rich repertoire of opera, ballet & classical concerts.

Prague State Opera

Built in 1888, the Prague State Opera is a rich, ornate opera house situated near Wenceslas Square.

Opera performances change nightly. The repertoire consists mainly of the most popular operas by Mozart (The Magic Flute, Cosi fan Tutte..), Verdi (La Traviata, Nabucco, Rigoletto, The Troubadour, The Masked Ball..), Puccini (Tosca, Turandot, Madame Butterfly..) & Bizet (Carmen). Around Christmas the Prague State Opera also hosts special festive concerts.

Estates Theatre

The Estates Theatre in Prague dates back to 1783. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful, historic theatres in Europe, and the name Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be forever linked with it. It was here in 1787 that he personally conducted his premiere of Don Giovanni.

Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, Cosi fan Tutte, The Marriage of Figaro and other famous Mozart operas feature heavily in the repertoire of the Estates Theatre. Ballets include Tchaikovsky's classical ballet Onegin.

National Theatre

The National Theatre in Prague is a stunning neo-renaissance building, constructed between 1868-81. It sits proudly alongside the banks of the Vltava River.
