Prague Castle is a majestic sight, and no more so than when lit up at night. Set high on the hillside overlooking the city, it dominates the skyline from all around.
Our Prague Castle at Night Walking Tour sets out to discover the darker side of Prague, in a fun but enlightening manner.
This fast paced trip mixes historical facts with mystery and legend, and covers the main periods of Prague's past, from Paganism to Medieval alchemy and astrology, to the Nazi occupation and the Communist's secret police.
We start our tour in the Old Town, from where our guide leads us through the historical centre of the city, over the river and up to Prague Castle. The tourists will have disappeared, and the castle takes on a different atmosphere.
We seek out hidden secrets at the castle, walking through the grand squares, past the palaces, churches and ancient monuments, and through Golden Lane where Franz Kafka once lived, and before him generations of artisans worked, stretching back to the middle ages.
At such an elevation, Prague Castle also affords us the best views over the city. Depending on the time of year, this can be glorious sunsets followed by the city lighting up at dusk, or the city already alive with lights under a dark, starry sky (weather of course permitting!).
To make the ascent to Prague Castle easier, a tram ride up to the castle is included in the price of the tour.
As well as Prague Castle, during the tour we visit the Old Town Square, Strahov Monastery, Černin Palace, Loreta, Nový Svět (New World), Domeček (Secret Police and Gestapo prison), the Powder Tower, St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George's Basilica, Golden Lane, St Wenceslas’ Vineyard, the Lesser Town, Wallenstein Palace and more.
Prague Experience walking tours are in English and are led by professional, licensed tourist guides.
