| Lobkowicz Palace (Lobkowiczký palác) is part of the Prague Castle complex, but requires a separate entrance ticket because it is privately owned. The Lobkowicz Palace Museum features a series of exquisitely decorated rooms, showcasing priceless exhibits from the private collections of the Lobkowicz family. On display are world-famous paintings works of art by 12th-20th century painters, including masterpieces by Canaletto, Bruegel the Elder, and Velázquez; ceramics spanning five centuries; weapons and armour; historic musical instruments; and, hand-annotated manuscripts by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and other composers.
Its most beautiful room, the Baroque Concert Hall, has a stunning 17th century ceiling adorned with frescos. This room is the magnificent setting for Lunchtime Classical Concerts.
Two other reception rooms, The Marble Hall and the Balcony Room, are particularly enchanting, as is the Lobkowicz Palace chapel.
The history of the palace reflects some of Bohemia’s most significant historical events.
Lobkowicz Palace was built in the 16th century by Czech nobleman Jaroslav of Pernštejn, and was originally named the Pernštejn Palace. It entered the Lobkowicz family by way of marriage.
In 1618, when Protestant rebels threw their Catholic Imperial ministers from the windows of Prague Castle (the “defenestration”), it was in Lobkowicz Palace that the survivors took refuge, at great political risk to the Lobkowicz family.
In the 20th century, after World War II, the palace was confiscated by the communist state. Its buildings were left to deteriorate, until, after 40 years of communist rule and a further 12 years seeking its restitution, the Lobkowicz family regained ownership. In 2002, the family embarked on extensive renovation. Fortunately today, all periods of Lobkowicz Palace's architectural history survive.
For refreshments, the Lobkowicz Palace Café offers casual dining and drinks. Sit on the small balcony at the rear to enjoy terrific views over the city.
HOW TO VISIT LOBKOWICZ PALACE Admission to Lobkowicz Palace is not included in the Prague Castle Ticket. A separate ticket is required. Three ways to visit Lobkowicz Palace: 1. Museum TicketA Museum Ticket allows visitors to tour Lobkowicz Palace with an audio guide. The audio guide (included in the price) is available in Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish or Ukrainian. It can also be accessed on a mobile device.
The tour narration lasts one hour. It is at your own pace and there is a lot to see, so visitors often spend considerably longer. Price:
