La Bodeguita del Medio in Prague is a lively Cuban restaurant and cocktail bar designed in the colonial style of Old Havana. La Bodeguita del Medio is located close to the Old Town Square, and is named after the bar of the same name in Havana; a favourite haunt of Ernest Hemingway, and home to the Mojito cocktail. There are several dining areas, each with plenty of character. The furniture is made of deep, dark wood and the walls are full of artefacts from Cuba and other exotic countries, such as old pictures, photographs, signs and advertisements. The aromatic and flavoursome cuisine at La Bodeguita del Medio is traditional South American and Creole, although portions are not as big as they once were. The menu offers a wide choice of dishes from tapas, duck, succulent steaks and tender lamb, to a variety of fish, including tiger prawns, calamari and salmon. Wines are from the Mediterranean, South America and Czechia, although the main attraction of La Bodeguita del Medio are the superb freshly prepared Caribbean cocktails, with over 150 long and short drinks to choose from. There is a popular bar area at the front of La Bodeguita del Medio, while upstairs is the first cigar club in Czechia, selling famous brand Cuban cigars. Look out for the humidors imported from Colombia. Upbeat Latin American music plays at a low level during the day and early evening, to allow for conversation. As the night progresses, the volume goes up, and the atmosphere with it! A Latin American band plays live music Tuesday to Saturday nights, and Cuban dancers perform traditional Latin American dances every night, making several appearances later on in the evening. La Bodeguita del Medio is a fashionable venue, popular with an international crowd. There is a real "Saturday night" festive feel about the place every night of the week. |
