Piano Terra is situated in the centre of Prague, on the hillside just below Prague Castle. The restaurant presents classic Italian food with a modern twist, in a delightful setting overlooking the city. Piano Terra is part of Villa Richter, a classicist summerhouse dating from 1836. The villa is set amongst the extensive vines of one of Bohemia's oldest vineyards (AD 908). The whole estate, including the villa, the restaurants, the vineyards and the garden terraces, has been meticulously restored. This rural ideal affords diners magnificent panoramic views over Prague: over the Vltava River, the Lesser Town and across to the Old Town.
Yet the restaurant is only a few minutes walk from the metro station Malostranska and the hustle and bustle of the city. Piano Terra offers well-prepared and presented Italian cuisine, and given the impressive setting the prices are remarkably good value. The restaurant's wine selection is stored in the 'Wine Chest', which is embedded in the villa's bedrock mass. There are fine Czech, French and Italian wines to choose from. To enjoy the views most diners opt for a table in the heated conservatory, which is open all year round. In the warmer months it is also possible to dine outside on the terrace. Villa Richter has all the charm of Prague's old world. Its vineyards date from the 10th century and were said to have been tended by St. Wenceslas himself. Stroll amongst the vines either before or after dinner, and enjoy the setting and the fine cuisine. The other restaurant at Villa Richter is Piano Nobile. |
